Jabberwocky - I loved this as a kid

JABBERWOCKY

Lewis Carroll

(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

'Twas brillig and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he
sought --So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe.

Frodo on my Face

The other day I woke up with a zit. Not just any zit.... we are talking about a mountain on my face. I half expected to see Frodo and Sam climbing up it to drop a ring in it.

I tried several different things to get it to go away but it still came into the room before me.

I was using my Neosporin lip balm and I decided "Hey, why don't I try this..." Well, I woke up the next morning and Mt Doom had almost completely disappeared.

I just thought I would share my discovery.... and my story. It cracked me up. :)

OK, so I have shared a couple of musical gems thus far and I think that it is time for a change of pace. I went to a friends house the other day for supper and tried this recipe that was amazing! Now, I have to admit that i tried it purely to be polite. It is a Coconut chicken with an apricot dipping sauce.... and I like neither coconut or apricot. But I was pleasantly surprised. This will definitely go in my recipe file and be used many times for it is both yummy and easy. Two of my favorites!

Ingredients:
Chicken:
8 boneless, skinless chicken tenders
1 cup low-fat buttermilk
1/2 Panko bread crumbs
3/4 cup shredded coconut

Dipping Sauce:
1/2 cup sugar free apricot (or orange) preserves
1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard

Instructions:
Marinate chicken in buttermilk in resealable bag. Combine Panko bread crumbs and coconut. Remove chucken from bag and coat with crumb/coconut mixture. Place chicken in a baking pan sprayed with cooking spray. Also, spray top of chicken with cooking spray. Bake 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Turn chicken and cook 10 more minutes or until chicken is done. Serve with sauce.

ENJOY!

Man of the Hour

Being an avid Norah Jones fan, I bought her new album, The Fall. It is very different from anything else I've heard from her... But different is not all bad. I had it playing while I was getting ready one morning (which is the time I often get to know a new CD) and I had almost finished with it. I was trying to decide whether or not to give it a few more goes or not. There was the possibility it could grow on me, but I wasn't sure if I wanted it to....

Until I heard the last song...

Cracked me up. Sat on my floor (because every other place to sit in my room was overed in laundry) putting on my shoes laughing so hard.

It is called Man of the hour. Here is a link if you'd like to listen to it: Man of the Hour

Here are the lyrics...
It's him or me
That's what he said
But I can't choose between a vegan and a pot head
So I chose you
Because you're sweet
And you give me lots of loving and you eat meat
And that's how you became my only man of the hour

You never lie and you don't cheat
And you don't have any baggage tied to your four feet
Do I deserve
To be the one
Who will feed you breakfast, lunch and dinner and take you to the park at dawn
Will you really be
My only man of the hour

I know you'll never bring me flowers
Flowers, they will only die
And though you'll never take a shower together
I know you'll never make me cry
You'll never argue, you don't even talk
And I like the way you let me lead you when we go outside and walk
Will you really be
My only man of the hour
My only man of the hour
My only man of the hour

Harry Connick Jr.

I got sick and tired of the music currently on my nightstand and decided to parooze my old stuff and pull out something so old I couldn't remember what all was on it. I decided on Harry Connick Jr. Specifically, his album Songs I Heard. Its a funky, jazzy blend of some old favorites. It has songs from "The Sound of Music," "Mary Poppins," "Willie Wonka," "Annie" "The Wizard of Oz" and more. But I'm warning you... these are what you expect. I found myself dancing around my bedroom unable to stand still. Anyway.... you should check it out.

It is quite often that I come across a great book, song, movie, recipe, coupon, deal, etc... and I think to myself "I should tell people about this." It isn't really an update on my life, or a random thought... so it doesn't seem to go on my normal blog (which has recently been given a make-over. Check it out: http://emily85.blogspot.com/ ) So I decided to start a new blog... a place to fill up with all my most favorite things.... raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens and the like.

So check back soon for some wonderful favorites. :)
